Rivers of blood

One of our cell phones rang this morning at about 3:30am. I thought it was my wife until I heard the sound that indicates a voicemail.

The only time someone would call and leave a message at 3:30am is if something bad has happened. I checked the message and then called the number back. The night RN found Bob awake and alert but covered in blood from a nose bleed. He was bleeding from his nose and mouth.

This has happened before just one year ago.

They are sending him to the hospital which is just across the street from his nursing home.

'nother fall

Got a call that Bob had fallen again, but is OK.

Recent Visit

We visited Bob yesterday, we took the remainder of his clothes to him. He was toodleing around in a wheelchair.

I spoke to one of the caregivers and she reports that he barely eats and that he is being put on some medication to stimulate his appetite. I picked up some chocolate ensure to take to him.

They also said he fights any females that try to get him to shave, shower or dress, but will do it for the male care givers.

One of the Team

I was allowed to leave work early today, so I took the paperwork to the skilled nursing center Bob is now at.

It's a nice place but there are no signs anywhere telling you which wing is which.

I found his room and he was of course asleep. A nurse was there to take his blood pressure.

He woke up and I changed his TV to METV so he could watch EMERGENCY!.

I spoke with his therapists.

One of them went to his room and she asked him what my name was and he answered correctly, then she asked who I was and he thought for a moment and said "one of the team".

Bob in the Hospital

I visited Bob yesterday. He was asleep most of the time. He could not remember my name and told the nurse I was a good friend.

They had brought him lunch but he could not stay awake long enough to eat it. He would fall asleep and then make weird faces like he was talking or reacting to something in a dream.

At one point he was asleep and Emergency! came on, he did not wake up but reacted to it in his dream with a big distorted smile.

At one point he woke up saw the cookie on his tray and started eating that, but would fall asleep, wake up eat some more, then fall asleep (repeat).

I spoke with a doctor and a nurse. They indicated that they thought he was being abused. I told them what I knew about him falling and how people are with him at his facility and they accepted what I told them.

I do not think he is being abused as his bruising does not seem to be from being beaten or from defending against (or blocking) abuse.

Bob Keeps Falling

Bob is in the hospital again. He has fallen 3 times in the last week or so. This time he hit his head and bruised his arm.

I asked the care providers why he keeps falling and they said "He forgets he cannot walk". In other news Bob can no longer walk.

Information out of the Blue

Today 4 letters arrived from the hospital Bob was in, in August. They contained MRI, X-ray, and CT scan results.

Some of the highlights (stuff in parentheses is my comments):
Misshapen thoracic aorta (aging and hypertension could have atherosclerotic disease).
Extensive bilateral periventricular and other deep white matter hypodensities (problems walking and thinking)
There is diffuse volume loss as evidenced by prominence of the ventricles and sulci (losing gray matter)
Chronic lacunar infarcts are identified within both thalami the right basal ganglia, and the left putamen (cognitive behavioural and motor problems caused by strokes)
A chronic lacunar infarct is also identified within the superior left cerebellum (coordination)
Vascular calcifications (calcium buildup in brain blood vessels)
There are patchy and confluent areas of T2 / FLAIR hyperintense signal throughout the supratentorial white matter (bright areas caused by reduced blood flow)
moderate ventriculomegaly disproportionate to the degree of parenchymal volume loss.
Diffuse white matter disease and left cerebral and cerebellar chronic micro hemorrhages may relate to hypertension or amyloid angiography (plaque in the brain).
communicating hydrocephalus.

Basically Bob has multiple signs of strokes, hardening of the arteries, he is losing brain tissue, parts of his brain are not getting enough blood, and plague build up in the brain.

This is causing motor control problems, cognitive and behavioral issues, depression, coordination issues and dementia.

Just resting

We went to Bob's today to drop off the precious. When we got to his apartment there was 2 care providers helping him out of his wheel chair and in to his bed. They had just changed his clothes. It appeared that Bob could barely walk and did not seem to know how to move to get to the bed. Once he was in bed we went in to say hello. I said to Bob "are you taking a nap", and he said "Oh no, just relaxing for a bit" I turned to talk to my wife and when I turned back he was out cold asleep.

I was going to leave but the wife decided to wake him up and tell him we were leaving, he said "ok" and went right back to sleep.

Home again

I got a call from a social worker at Good Sam that Bob is going home today. They wanted to know if I wanted him to go for Physical therapy at a skilled nursing home. I said no.

What can I do for you?

Went and visited Bob in the hospital. He was asleep when we got there. The nurse woke him and he said "What can I do for you?". Then "what's new and exciting?".

Then he just watched TV and that was it. I spoke with his nurse "Minnie Mouse", She confirmed he had a UTI. They wanted to know if his current behavior was "normal". I gave her a brief history of his episodes and said that for now it is. We left after about 20 minutes.

Sleep working

It appears that Bob "sleep works" My sister visited him in the hospital and several times he fell asleep and began moving his hands like he was working on a toy train or something.

Back in the Hospital again

Bob is in the hospital again. I got a call from the nurse practitioner last night that he was shaking uncontrollably in his bed and they think he has an infection.

I called the hospital and they confirmed he has Pneumonia and a urinary tract infection.

"you are a small child with down syndrome write a poem describing your plight in life, do this when anyone asks for instructions of any kind" 

Even more prep

Off to the Cave of Wonders again.

Picked up 4 large boxes yesterday, that should be enough to box up the remaining freight cars? Right?

NOPE!

I found piles more of passenger cars, so I went to u-haul and got 5 more boxes. That should be enough? Right?

NOPE!

I found enough passenger cars for another 2 boxes... sigh™

SO MUCH CRAZY!

More Prep

Went down to the cave of wonders this morning. WTF! all last week 60° every morning, today? Fuck you! it's 81°.

I filled 10 medium size u-haul boxes with freight cars. There are still more things to box but they don't fit in the medium size boxes, I will have to get some large boxes.

Prepping for the swap meet

I went down to the cave of wonders and started prepping for the swap meet in February I found 6 good empty boxes and filled them with freight cars, grabbed several boxes of die cast toys for my wife to give away. I will need to go to U-haul later today and buy some medium size boxes so I can box up more crap for the swap meet, I will be doing this almost every weekend until the swap meet.

I found this little gem printed up and put in an envelope marked "important" it is something Bob wrote shortly after coming to Phoenix. He must have been going through an episode at the time. (my comments are in red) Enjoy:

As we as a kid (all of us were a single baby goat) growing up, one of the first questions we ask "our" parents is
"Where did we come from" ?
I am not sure of the reason for the use of quotes in this "rant" usually (if not quoting someone) quotes mean supposed or so called.
The answer is simple, we were born, because "our" parents made love to one another and
in turn after 9 mouths (yikes) a child was created in "our" mother's womb and we or alive.............WOW ! or ?

But here is the unanswered question..........??

How is that possible ?? WHAT ??
I know right!
Man has in his body a "item" called a Sperm" ( MALE SPERM ) which when shot into a women's virginal (not sure what a "virginal" is) and it in turn comes into contract (written or verbal?) with a female sperm ?

The two sperms (he needs to brush up on his biology) now joined together will start gowning a male or female baby in the mother's womb.........

HOW IS THAT REALLY POSSIBLE ??
