Last load for the swap meet

Picked up a the last load of stuff in my brothers small trailer. We did not fill the trailer. We took it to his house till next weekend.

It looks like we could fit the remainder of Bobs stuff in a 5x20 storage unit.

APPROVED!

Here it is! the first page of the approval letter.

The asset mentioned was his truck, now my truck.

Memory care

I spoke with the person in charge of assisted living and memory care at my dads apartment complex, after talking to her for about half an hour we will be putting Bob in Memory care (they have an opening). He will be in an apartment that is the same as his current one but without a stove. He will not be able to leave without an escort but they are supposedly real discrete about keeping the residents on the property.

They will have planned outings and 3 meals a day.

I thought you had forgot me

Today my brother and I went to the cave of wonders to finish going through everything and box up what trains we could find. I think we found and boxed about 50 items. There are still lots of things not boxed up, some of it is probably in his apartment.

Next week we will load up a trailer with the remainder of the stuff that will be sold.

When we finished I went home and picked up his laundry and some pies my wife had bought him. I went to the store and bought him more bananas and hamburgers.

When I got to his apartment and was unloading everything he said "I thought you had forgot me". He says this every weekend. This time I put my arm around his shoulders and said "Bob, I will never forget you, you have made sure of that." He chuckled.

I stripped and made his bed, there was a mess on it. While I was working on that he complained that he needed a stool to sit on while he cooked his food. I told him I would get him one. I then remembered that I forgot his pills. So I went home, reloaded his pill dispenser and stopped by walmart where I found an inexpensive stool, picked up a set of twin sheets, and a tarp to cover the trailer after we load it up.

I dropped them off and that's when he said he wanted to show me something...
He took me in to the bathroom and said that "somebody" had come in and took one of the blades out of his shaver. ಠ_ಠ

No Bob they did not take it. "Yes they did" no they didn't...
I looked in the trash in the bathroom and found one of the blades but the foil was not in there, then after looking some more I found that in a glass on his sink.

I put the shaver back together and told him to be more careful when cleaning it out.

Then I escaped somehow.

Sigh™

Yesterday my wife took Bob to the chiropractor. She noticed that the back of his pants were discolored, and that he had not changed them in a week. sigh™

He had another hemorrhoid pop, and was slathering Bag Balm all over his backside. sigh™

He was late to get to his appointment because he had skipped lunch since he thought that his appointment was for 3:30. Somehow he thought if he took lunch he would miss his appointment. So he had to wait extra time because he had to have my wife stop for food on the way to the chiropractor and he ate in the waiting room. sigh™

My wife gave him the special cream for his legs and hopefully he won't use it as toothpaste. sigh™

How not to deal with dementia

I was reading a book yesterday on how to deal with dementia patients. It taught me one thing, never EVER take care of a person with dementia. Leave it to institutions or homes. That's not what the book said but that is what I got out of it. You have to have infinite patients and I do not.

Never lose your temper.
YEAH RIGHT!

I took Bob down to the cave of wonders this morning to try and make some decisions of what to sell. I could not keep him on task. When I showed him the boxes of books that we were going to sell he said he wanted to look at them first. He completely forgot that he had looked at them over a month ago and told me to just sell all of them.

He kept looking for specific locomotives to take back to his apartment and not run. He had us put 3 locomotives in the van and then when he saw the trains in the van a few minutes later he wanted to know what they were. We showed him and he decided one of the trains is not the one he wanted, and to put it back in the cave. Then not 1 minute later he saw the train I had just put in the cave and he said he wanted it for his apartment, we told him he just told us to put it in the cave and he started arguing about it till we proved that he was confusing the H-9 and the H-10 locomotive.

About that time he locked in on a box I had in a pile of boxes that were empty. He wanted to take it back and I told him it was empty. He blew a gasket and wanted to know where the train was. I told him it was on his train layout and there ensued another round of NO IT'S NOT, YES IT IS!

I had, had it. I blew up at him I told him I am sick and tired of him getting all pissed off about not finding trains and the train is in his apartment. In this case I know for a fact it is on his layout. He is the one that went to the cave and went through un-boxing trains and not re-boxing them and then he blames everyone else. HE is the one that opened it and HE is the one that did not put it back. He refused to believe it because HE is perfect. So we were barely there 30 minutes and we took him home. I also told him we are not taking him to the train show to help sell stuff because he won't be able to handle it and I plan on selling stuff he may not want to sell.

We (my brother and I) returned and began by putting all the books to sell in my truck. Then we began going through the entire cave and anything that was 2 rail went in to the truck, any random die cast toys lying around went to my brother. We got about half way through the cave and then took a break to get lunch (on Bob).

We came back and went through the rest of the cave. We found the remainder of the empty boxes and all the trains not in boxes. We found a pile of HO gauge trains and some other random stuff like kits and buildings. We put all the MTH trains up high and pulled them all out of any cardboard boxes they were packed in. Next week we will be going back to box up any trains we can find, any trains not in boxes (and no box can be found) will be sold. If he does not like it too bad, I will deal with his "wrath".

So let it be written! so let it be done!

Another routine cleaning

Yesterday we went to Bob's apartment.

We showed up with groceries and he said "about time, I'm out of food".  A quick check of his refrigerator showed he was not out of food. He was just out of hamburgers, and bananas.

I changed out his bed sheets and sprayed the bedframe and mattress covers with Temprid. I did not see any Bed bugs. I vacuumed his apartment and it is amazing how well a vacuum works with a new filter, the one he had was probably over 5 years old.

My wife cleaned while I was doing the above.

I brought one of his pension checks he had not cashed. I had him sign it, but he lamented that he had no way to cash it. I told him I would cash it and bring it back to him on our next visit. He said "ok". I took it to the bank and deposited it in to his account. It is very unlikely he will remember. I have paper work coming (for him to sign) to direct deposit his checks straight in to his account. I will tell him that the company he gets the pension from is switching to deposit only. He does not need to have a wallet full of cash and nowhere to spend it, and I do not want him squirreling away his money all over the apartment.

He still shows no sign that he noticed half his trains gone. I did tell him that I am taking him down to the cave of wonders on Monday.

My wife had to leave to pickup some stuff for his apartment and bring him some food to eat. I gave her his bank card and told her to go to walmart buy what was needed get cash back and use that at Jack in the box. While she was gone the following happened:

He began showing me a book about the Bayer Garret locomotives, then some illinois railroad then a couple of other books, then he talked about my youngest sister in Atlanta, GA and how much he missed her and how funny she was when she was little.

The whole time he mostly never looked up from the books and I just watched whatever he had on TV not listening to anything he said.

At one point he said that he needed to "go to a chiropractor twice a week", I said "he didn't", he said he did, I said "he didn't", he said he did, I said "he didn't" he said "I guess I don't". Neither of us can take him twice a week, my wife is going to see if she can take him once a week.

Yes! we know.

Why is it that every time Bob is seen by a new doctor, nurse, or physical therapist they have to point out with great concern that Bob should not be living by himself? I already know this.

I think I need to make a t-shirt with a disclaimer on it for Bob to wear.

SURPRISE!

Guess who's home? Bob is!

Guess who got him there? Who the fuck knows!

Guess who called us to let us know he was going home? NOBODY!

Guess how he got in to his apartment without his keys? Pure fucking magic!

Guess who jumped to a conclusion that the apartment complex dumped out his stupid fucking chocolate milk? Bob did!

Guess who can't make his own bed? Bob can't!

Guess who has not noticed that half his trains are gone? Bob!

Guess who is hating life right now? I am!

Cave of Wonders

Since Bob should be coming home on The 8th I decided that I needed to go down to storage and get all the empty train boxes I could find, go up to his apartment and box up as much stuff as I could.

So that's what I did. But first...

I went to home depot and bought a hoe. "what is the hoe for?" you ask. It's so I can get stuff out of the truck with out having to climb up in to it.

I got to the cave of wonders and began rummaging though it looking for any empty train boxes and any trains not in boxes. I found lots o' both. I was there for about 1.5 hours. At one point I almost had a trainvalanche fall on me.

I then tried to box up anything I found in storage, but I only managed to box up about 10 or so. Then I loaded up the the truck and went to Bob's apartment. It took 2 trips to get them all up there. I then spent 2 hours in the apartment finding and boxing as much stuff as I could.

Several weeks ago when Bob and I were at the cave of wonders, Bob pitched a bitch because he found an empty box for a locomotive. I told him it is probably in his apartment, he was absolutely certain that it was not and I did not know what I was talking about. Well guess what I found in his apartment... Yes that's right the train for that box, weird right?

I boxed up a dozen or so pieces of rolling stock, and all but 3 locomotives, there were still lots of trains I could not find. It took 2 trips to reload everything back in to the truck and take it back.

I am very tired.

Moping about

We visited Bob a couple days ago and he was moping about not being able to drive. He also keeps thinking that he can just get up and go anywhere at the rehab facility, but he is not supposed to so the bed alarm goes off and the nurse has to chase him down. He is also quit pissy about them having to help him. He said that he "never wants to come back to this place" I told him that he should not have another fall then. he said "well I haven't fallen yet" as if he will never fall again.

The plan on discharging him on the 8th.

Since he was doing nothing but feeling sorry for himself about not being able to drive we left.

Bob's Birthday

Bob's Birthday today. We went to bring him a piece of chocolate cake, and chocolate milk. He was asleep curled up like a little baby fully dressed with his shoes on.....

We gave the stuff to his nurse and left.
